Biography
Ghislain Modeste DeCamps (1834-1896) was born on 26th August 1834 in Court-Saint-Étienne, Arrondissement de Nivelles, Walloon Brabant, Belgium, to unknown parents.
Ghislain Modeste DeCamps emigrated from Belgium to South Carolina sometime before 1860. Around this time he married his wife, Mary Elizabeth Hahn. [It is not clear whether Modeste married and had children before or after his arrival in the US - ASW]
The 1860 US Census shows Modeste living at 277 College St, Greenville, South Carolina, with his wife Mary Elizabeth Hahn DeCamps and their two sons:
- Adolphe DeCamps, aged 7, and
- Christie Jean-Baptiste DeCamps (1879-1951), aged 1. [1]
Ghislain Modeste DeCamps died in 1896, aged 61or 62, in Greenville County, South Carolina. [2]
