Timothy Deasy was born in 1739 at Barry's Hall, Timoleague, Clonakilty.
The Deasys were brewers and sea merchants. They built up a reputation as smugglers at which trade they were very successful. Deasy schooners regularly transported patriot Daniel O'Connell and his family to France from nearby Galley Head. A shipyard flourished at Deasy's Quay in the early and mid nineteenth century when several schooners were built. The schooner Catherine (87 tons) was built here in 1840. [1]
