Thomas married Maud de Ufford before 10 June 1350. She was the daughter and heiress of Ralph de Ufford, Knt. and Maud of Lancaster, dau. of Henry, Earl of Lancaster.[1][3][4]
Thomas succeeded as 8th Earl of Oxford on 24 Jan 1360. Hereditary Great Chamberlain of England, Hereditary Chamberlain to the Queen for the Coronation, Steward of the Royal Forests, in co. Essex.[4]
Thomas died 12-18 Sep 1371[4] in Great Bentley, Essex. He was buried at Earls Colne, Essex. [1][3]
Maud charged with conspiring against king
Maud had proclaimed that Richard II was still alive and would assist his right to the throne. She was arrested and imprisoned.[3]
William Coggeshall, Knt. and his associates were told that Maud de Vere and others conspired against King Henry IV. On 3 Feb. 1404-5 Maud surrendered herself before the king at Westminister and was imprisoned. She defended herself with letters patent that she claimed the king pardoned her. This was accepted and she was released when she provided surety.[1]
Maud's death
Maud died testate on 25 Jan 1412-13.[4] She was buried in Nun's Church, Bruisyard, Suffolk.[1][3]
