Nota Bene: Hugh is sometimes conflated with his father.
From his letter of safe-conduct in 1255,[1][2] one can be confident that he was likely over 18 at the time placing his birth before 1237. His paternal grandparents married circa 1200 and his father is estimated to have been born around 1201 so it seems safe to infer this Hugh's birth was afterr 1216 giving a rang of 1216-1236 or rougly 1226 +/- a decade. Pommery gives the year 1221 for his birth and as Hugh was likely much older than 18 in 1255, this year is possibly the best estimate[4]
