Biography

Eliza Ratchford DeWolf was born on 29 April 1835 in either Amherst, Cumberland county or Horton, Kings county in the Colony of Nova Scotia, daughter of William Henry DeWolf and Sarah Embree Lusby.[1]

She married George Edward Forsyth, son of James and Jemima Ann "Nancy" (Fitch) Forsyth, some time before 1854, probably in Wolfville. They had the following known children:

  1. Annie (Forsyth) Salter (abt.1854-1893)[2]
  2. Morris Forsyth (1856-1860)[3]
  3. Elizabeth DeWolf Forsyth (abt.1858-1893)[4]
  4. Lizzie Forsyth (1861-1861)[5]

The family was living in Wolfville in 1864, where George was one of the owners of "Forsyth, Rounsefell & Co.," importers and merchants.[6] His mother was living there with them in the 1871 census.[7]

Ten years later, they were living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In addition to their daughter Bessie, George's mother and a servant named Katie McMullen lived with them.[8]

in 1891, their niece Helen was also living with them.[9]

She died on 14 June 1898 in Halifax, at age 63, and was interred there in Camp Hill Cemetery.[10][11]
