Biography

The daughter of Edward DePuy and Mabel (Lowe) DePuy, Purnell DePuy was born in Saline Township, Michigan^{[citation needed]} in 1877, residing there with her family.^[1][2]

Purnell married Andrew Ribbeck, the son of Frederick Ribbeck and Christina Barneyes, marrying in Hillsdale County, Michigan on October 1, 1903^[3] and having one son together. They also had a daughter, who died at birth. Purnell and her family made their home in HIllsdale, Michigan, where her husband worked as the bookkeeper at a flour mill.^[4][5]

Purnell and her family moved west to Washington, where her husband passed away in 1927.^[6] In 1930, Purnell and her son lived in Seattle residing in a home that she owned at 2299 E. 60th Street.^[7]

During the next few years, Purnell traveled, always alone. In 1932, she sailed from San Francisco and Los Angeles aboard the SS Pennsylvania, departing on December 29, 1931 and arriving into the Port of New York on January 4, 1932.^[8] In 1933, Purnell sailed alone from Shanghai, China aboard the SS President Grant, departing from Shanghai on November 19, 1933 and arriving into Seattle on November 28, 1933.^[9] In 1935, she sailed from Montevideo, Uruguay aboard the SS Hollywood on February 22, 1935 and arriving into Seattle.^[10] In 1938, she traveled to Brazil, sailing out of Rio de Janeiro aboard the S.S. La Plata Maru on October 15, 1938 and arriving into the Port of Los Angeles on November 12, 1938.^[11]

Purnell Ribbeck passed away in Los Angeles, California^[12] at the age of 72.
