Dallas Cleveland DeHart was born on November 6, 1932 in Union County, South Carolina, USA, son of Meax J DeHart (1905–1943) and Nora Alice Miller (1897–1937).

Dallas died on March 4, 2005 in Buncombe County, North Carolina, aged 72. He was buried in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, Buncombe County, North Carolina.[1]


A native of Union, S.C., he had lived in Buncombe County for over 50 years. He was the son of the late Meax and Nora Miller DeHart and husband of the late Addie Mae Nelon DeHart, who died in 1992. Dallas also was preceded in death by a son, Donald DeHart, in 2004. Also preceding him in death are three brothers, Curtis and Richard Lunsford and Dillard DeHart, and a granddaughter, Mindy Ownbey Metcalf.

Dallas was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the VFW Post 10349, Masonic Lodge 446 and was a Shriner. He was a retired employee of Budweiser of Asheville and a former employee of the Pepsi and RC Cola distributors.

He is survived by three daughters, Melva Ownbey of Asheville, Marcia Brown of Arden and Revonda Johnson of Mills River; three sons, Grover DeHart of Marshall, Glenn DeHart of Fairview and Paul DeHart of Leicester; sister, Ruth Helton of Asheville; brother, Herman DeHart of Candler; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
