Biography

Jonathan was born in 1828. He was the son of Jonathan Day and Mary (or Nancy) Butler.

Jonathan married Sarah Olivia Freeman on 09 Oct 1859 in Jackson County, Georgia.[1]

During the Civil War, Jonathan fought for the Confederacy in the 43rd Georgia Infantry. He was a private.[2] He was wounded in the Battle of Chickamauga in Atlanta, and was taken prisoner at the Battle of Vicksburg. His service ended in 1865.

By 1870, he and Sarah were living in Jackson County, Georgia, and had one child, Francis Marion..[3] They were still in Jackson County in 1880 in a place called Chaulers (sic, Chandler).[4]

In 1900, the couple was living in Chandler, Jackson, Georgia.[5]

By 1910, the widowed Jonathan was living in the household of his son, Francis Marion Day.[6]

Jonathan passed away in 1915 in Atlanta in the Confederate Soldiers' Home of Georgia. The records indicate his son, F. M. of Kerryton, or Grandson, Hay Jackson of Watkinsville, Georgia, were to be notified of his death.[7] Burial was in the Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia.[8][9]

He and his wife Sarah (aka Levi) were mentioned in the death record of their son, Francis Marion Day, in Monroe, Walton County, Georgia, on 05 Dec 1940.[10]
