Susannah was born in 1828. She is believed to be the daughter of Daniel Day Sr (1796-1879) and Susannah (Taylor) Day (1795-1828).[1][2]
She was married to Charles Brawn/Brown (1825-1852), on 14 May 1847, by James H. Hutchinson, JP.[3][4][5] They had two sons, both of whom were recorded in 1850:
Family lore says there may have been a daughter as well, b. after 1850 but died young.
Charles Brown, a 22-year-old harnessmaker, and Susannah 22, were recorded in Fayette, Kennebec, ME in the 1850 census of with sons Ronello and Henry.
Charles Brawn died in 1852 and was buried in Old Fayette Mills Cemetery , and it is believed that Ronello and Susannah died before 1860.
Her son Henry's middle name is sometimes given as Miller (1900 census and daughter's birth record). Perhaps it was her family name? Henry also is recorded living with A.W and Angeline Smith in 1860. Check Susannah Miller or Smith who married a Charles Brawn or Brown, about 1847.
Her husband's name was actually Brawn, not Brown; this information was not known until recently when DNA matches indicated Daniel Chapman Brawn as Charles' father. However, some of Charles' siblings changed the spelling and that may have been gradually adopted by other family members after 1860.
Death record still needed.
EXCITING DEVELOPMENT!!
Searching for Susannah... Day? A Charles Brown, Brawn, or Brawen married Susannah Day in Fayette, Kennebec, ME on either 20 Mar 1847 or 17 May 1847.
This was exactly when and where we hypothesized the marriage took place. Also there is a connection to the Day family with his brother, Daniel, who married Elizabeth Day, her sister, most probably. Will actively pursue this.
Susan Day (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/MFBM-F4S) b. 1828 daughter of Daniel Day and Susannah Taylor. Her sister married Daniel Brawn Jr. Elizabeth J Day (1823-abt.1880)
The sources suggest (https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/KC8J-BG1) Susannah Day b. 26 Aug 1803... which is too early to be a match for our Charles Brawn, she would be considerably older. But that person lived in Lincoln, ME. The Susannah who was the younger sister of Elizabeth Day and the daughter of Daniel and Susannah Taylor Day fits all the criteria of our mystery lady. Also, if true, Charles and Susannah would be 2nd cousins, descending from common ancestors John Chapman (abt.1720-aft.1796) and Elisabeth (Lambert) Chapman (1725-1808). Will work on adding ancestors to Daniel Day and Susannah Taylor.
