A very old resident of the Booligal and Hay district, Mr George Eade, died at his residence on the Hay Irrigation Area yesterday afternoon, Mr. Eade and his wife, who predeceased him by nine months, came to Australia from Sussex in 1874, and landed in Brisbane. From there they came across country to Booligal in 1877. Their journey overland was accomplished with considerable difficulty and hardship, and often when their horses could not be used, the Eades had to walk. But they were of the stern stuff from which pioneers were made, and they eventually reached the Lachlan. Mr Eade took up land near Booligal, on which he made his home. The area was much short of the living area ideas of the P.P. Boards' Convention, which, as reported elsewhere, has asked that the acreage required to carry 3000 sheep should be regarded as a living area. Mr Eade stuck to his holding, to which he gave the name of Lilydale, until he came into Hay to live, leaving his son James to carry on at the old home. Mrs Eade died at Hay in September last. Of the family of ten, seven survive, all being grown up. Mr Eade was very highly esteemed for his hard work and probity. The funeral takes place at 2 p.m. to-morrow.
