Biography

Her son named his mother Margaret Hunter on his first marriage record - however his birth and 1841 British census records do not match this name.

Biography

Elizabeth Davy was born in about 1805 in Devonport, Devon, England.

She is probably the Elizabeth Davy, born 15 Aug 1806, daughter of John & Elizabeth, who was christened on 9 Mar 1808 in Stoke Damerel, Devonport.[1]

Elizabeth Davy, Spinster, and Thomas Kilgour, Seaman HMS Windsor Castle, Bachelor, were married after Banns on 13 Mar 1827 in East Stonehouse, Devon, England - the witnesses were Francis Ilter, Sarah Yeo & John Moore Clerk.[2]

Elizabeth and Thomas had at least four children:

  1. Mary Elizabeth Kilgour (c1828-1844)
  2. Thomas Pattison Hunter Kilgour (1830-1876) [emigrated to New Zealand]
  3. Sarah Kilgour (1832-1842)
  4. Margaret Ann (Kilgour) Finner (1844-1919)

Elizabeth was the recipient of her husband's pay while he was at sea:

  • In 1840 the allotment of Thomas Kelgour, Captain of the Afterguard aboard the ship Howe, went to his wife Elizabeth (married c1826 in Devonport).[3]
  • In 1841 the allotment of Thomas Kilgour, Boatswain's mate on the ship San Josef, was sent to his wife Elizabeth (married 13 Mar ? in Stonehaven).[4]
  • In 1845 the allotment of Thomas Kilgour, Boatswain's mate on the ship Caledonia, was sent to his wife Elizabeth (married c1826 at Stonehouse Chapel).[5]

In 1841 Elizabeth Kilgoar (age 35) lived at Cherry Garden Street in Stoke Damerel with her three children: Mary (13), Thomas (11), and Sarah (8).[6] Elizabeth's husband was presumably at sea.

In 1851 Elizh Kilgour (age 45) lived at Cherry Garden Street in Stoke Damerel with her husband Thomas (45, Naval Pensioner) and daughter Margaret (7).[7]

In 1861 Elizabeth Kilger (age 48 [~55]) lived at Chapel Street in Stoke Damerel with her husband Thomas (55, Chelsea Pensioner).[8]

In 1871 Betsy Kilgour (age 66) lived in Stoke Damerel with her husband Thomas (67).[9]

Elizabeth Kilgour passed away on 7 Aug 1878, aged 73 years. Her death was registered in Stoke Damerel in the third quarter of the year.[10] Elizabeth Kilgour of 4 Keat Street, aged 73 years, who died 7 Aug, was buried on 11 Aug 1878 in Stoke Damerel.[11]
