Biography

Henry was born in 1834. He passed away about 1863. He may have arrived in Auckland, New Zealand from London on the barque, Mary Catherine in 1853. The barque was then owned by Henry Nathan but was formerly owned by Charles Davis of Auckland.

Research Notes

"this person is my husband's Great Grand Father. He came to New Zealand several times when he was on the Ship named "The North Star" We have a Gold Watch in the Family that was presented to him by an Aunt Phoebe on his 13th Birthday in 1834

He took two Maori women to wife in nEw Zealand and had 2 Sons to each wife. Our Ancestor was his Son Ngaronui or Kino Davios or Reweti born about 1846. This is just an estimated Date. We have no proof of his birth.

This ship we think was a Merchant Navy Ship that traveled to Australia and New Zealand. We are positive that he was not just a Deck Hand on the Ship. His Picture we have shown: shows him as someone of a prominent family.

Research has shown that he may be was Trained in Dartford, Kent, England because there was a Henry Davis there in 1860 who became a First Mate.

Perhaps someone in England has this same Picture & can help us."^[1]

The FamilySearch tree has a baptism and parents attached to Henry, but doesn't show an aunt Phoebe on his father's side, and no brothers or sisters of his mother are attached; it's unclear what the evidence for these being the correct parents consists of.
