Biography

James Davis was born on July 30, 1700 in Barnstable, Barnstable, Province of Massachusetts Bay, son of Joseph Davis (~1664–1735) and Hannah Cobb (1671–1739).^[1]

James married Thankful Hinckley (born on July 9, 1708 in Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay Colony; daughter of Capt Joseph Hinckley and Mary (Gorham) Hinckley).^[2]

Probate

James Davis of Barnstable, yeoman died intestate and on 12 March 1745/46, Isaac Hinckley of Barnstable was granted the administration of his estate.^[3]

His inventory was taken on 14 March 1745/46 in Barnstable.^[4]

In 1746, his brother Robert Davis of Barnstable was appointed guardian of his minor children, Hannah, Benjamin, and Joseph. Isaac Hinckley, Jr., of Barnstable, was appointed guardian of his minor children, Eunice, Thankful, and James. And Gershom Davis was appointed guardian of his minor son, David.^[5]

In 1755, his estate was set out to his eldest son, Joseph Davis, who would pay the other heirs their share, viz., Hannah, wife of Isaac Davis, James Davis, Benjamin Davis, David Davis, Thankful Davis, and Eunice Davis. An account of his estate by Isaac Hinckley included doctor, appraisers, debts paid, and administration fees.^[6]
