Alice Davies (or Davis) was born in 1837, and christened on 27 Sep 1837 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. She was the daughter of William Davies and Mary (Brownbill) Davies. Her father's occupation was recorded as watch maker, and the family's address as Eccleston.

Alice's mother died in 1840, and was buried on 17 Dec 1840 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. Her age was recorded as 24, and her address as Eccleston.

Alice's father married Phoebe Jones on 17 Mar 1841 at St Luke's Church in Liverpool, Lancashire.

By June 6th 1841, the family were living in Lane Ends, Eccleston. Alice's father was a watchmaker.
