Biography

Darthula (Darden) Matthews is a part of US Black heritage.

Darthula Darden was born in 1891 in Texas. She was the daughter of Henry Darden and Cornelia Richardson.^[1]

She married Ennis Irving on 28 June 1913 in El Paso, Texas.^[2][3]

Darthula and her husband Ennis registered to vote in 1914 in Gila County, Arizona. Ennis was listed as a porter. They listed their residence as Bailey Street, between 5th and 6th St., in Globe.^[4]

Darthula Irving, 40, chiropodist, daughter of Henry Darden and Cornelia Richardson, married Albion Matthews on 17 November 1933 in Santa Ana, California.^[5] In 1940 they were living in Los Angeles. Darthula's second husband was a post-office clerk.^[6]

Darthula was the informant when her husband died in 1949.^[7]

Research notes

Darthula Irving, listed as 34 years old, born in Kentucky, single, chiropodist, black (ethnicity is listed as "neg") was living in Los Angeles in 1930.^[8] In spite of the discrepancies (Dorthula Darden Irving was divorced, was born in Texas and was a few years older) this entry must refer to the Darthula profiled here.
