Sources for second marriage appended: Note I have seen both 1752 & 1762 as remarriage date. New Salem VR and his will give Jeremiah Ballard's death as 1761: New Salem VR has Wid. Mary Ballard marrying Aaron Osgood in July 1762. I think the 1752 can be ignored.

Potential Confusion

I've posted a Freespace page "Mary Dane of Andover" regarding four different Mary Danes in this era with ongoing research I'm doing to sort out the dates, places and relationships of the four women, including the subject of this profile. Dane-173 01:09, 17 April 2016 (EDT)

Mary, daughter of Francis Dane and Hannah Poor, born on 22 April 1699 in Andover. [1]

Though there are two marriage records in the Andover records for Mary Dane, this Mary's father Francis's will (see below) connects this Mary with the following marriage record:

  1. Mary Dane and Jeremiah Ballard, Dec. 29, 1721[2].

My research is ongoing regarding the four Mary Danes. Dane-173 17:59, 17 April 2016 (EDT)

Biography

Mary Dane was born at Andover, Massachusetts on April 22, 1699, daughter of Francis and Hannah (Poor) Dane. [3]

She married Jeremiah Ballard at Andover on Dec. 21, 1721. Jeremiah was born there on March 29, 1697, son of Joseph and Rebecca Ballard. [3]

In her father Francis Dane's will, dated Sept. 20, 1736, proved Dec. 20, 1738, he mentions his daughter Mary Ballard and son-in-law Jeremiah Ballard. [4]

Jeremiah Ballard died at New Salem, Massachusetts in 1761. [5]

In the will Jeremiah Ballard of New Salem, written in Oct., 1759, he left bequests to:

  • wife Mary, during her natural life as she remain unmarried, in which case her their daughters will have an equally divided share of the household and kitchen items
  • eldest son (Jeremiah)
  • son Joshua
  • son Daniel
  • son Joseph
  • daughter Mary
  • daughter Phebe

He appointed wife Mary and his eldest son executors, but on June 8, 1761, his widow Mary petitioned the court that she approved the will as submitted but would be unable to attend to these affairs. [6]

Widow Mary Ballard married Aaron Osgood in July, 1762 at New Salem, Massachusetts. [5]
