Bio from Find A Grave:
Nathaniel Watson Dandridge married his first cousin, Eliza G. Moore in Goochland Co, VA on 16 January, 1810. Surety for the marriage was Archibald B. Dandridge. Archibald B. Dandridge was an older first cousin.
NWD was living in Hanover Co., VA in 1810 and is listed in the census index as Nathaniel Dandridge, age 16-20, as was his wife. Apparantely they were living in Tennessee by 1825 being that his daugher, Martha Fontaine, was born in Madison Co., Tennessee in Jan 1826. They were still living in Madison Co, TN in 1830 and in 1832 at the time of a special TN census. Apparantely they moved to Alabama shortly thereafter for a short time. His daughter, Mary Elizabeth, was born in Alabama in 1832. It would seem that the move to Alabama might have had something to do with Nathaniel Watson's sister, Mary, who was married to Richard Ellis. They lived in Franklin Co, AL at the time. Richard Ellis was a prominent lawyer who help frame the Alabama constitution.
From the 1830 census we see there were nine children in the household, 5 boys and 4 girls. He apparently returned to Tennessee by 1833. Daughter Sarah was married in Shelby Co, TN in 1833, so the family may have been back in Tennessee by then. In 1837-38 NWD was listed on the Shelby County tax roles as owning 600 acres and 6 slaves. He received additional land in Shelby County, TN in 1839. In the 1840 census he owned 14 slaves in Shelby County TN.
NWD and Eliza moved to Marshall, Harrison Co, TX by 1850 (See TX census) and was living in Bowie Co, TX in 1860. The move to Texas may again have been influenced by his brother-in-law, Richard Ellis. Richard had moved to Harrison Co, Texas before 1836. Richard was chairman of the Texas constitutional convention.
