Edward was born in 1933 in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland. His parents were Thomas Daly and Susan Flood Daly
Edward Daly served as the Bishop of Derry from 1974 to 1993[1] when he retired at the age of 59 after suffering a stroke.
After retirement, he continued his service as the Derry diocese's archivist, and as a hospice chaplain.[2].
He studied at St Columb's College in Derry before going to the Irish College in Rome to prepare for the priesthood.
Daly was ordained 16 March 1957, in Belleek where he had been raised.[3]
His first appointment was as a Curate in Castlederg, Co. Tyrone. In 1962.
He was appointed as a Curate in St. Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry. In 1973,
He was appointed Religious Advisor to RTÉ, Dublin. In 1974.
He was ordained Bishop of Derry.[4]
