William was born about 1755, he was the son of William and Mary Dalley. He was baptised on 12 October 1755 at Veryan, Cornwall, England.^[1][2]

Research Notes

• Conflicting Marriage information: Profile biography originally had marriage to Ann (Hopkins) Dalley on the 25 December 1790 at Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire.^[3] Given William was born in Veryan, Cornwall he would be unlikely to be married in Tewkesbury, 210 miles distance. There was a marriage for a William Dally of Veryan married in 1780 to Elizabeth Saul.^[4] Multiple trees on Ancestry agree with this marriage and family connection with compelling sources.
• Marriage to Ann (Dunstone) Dalley (bef.1755-) in Wendron, 26 miles from Veryan is currently attached to the profile. Could this be a different William Dally/Dalley? There was a man of that name in Wendron born 1753, son of William and Catherine, who appears to have remained in that parish at the same time as a William Dally/Dalley was born and lived in Veryan. On the marriage cited in Ann Dunstone's profile, the source states both parties are of the parish of Wendron, and therefore not the same man from Veryan. A William Dally of the correct age died in Veryan in 1807, while another William died in Constantine, 4 miles from Wendron, in 1831 the correct age to be the one from Wendron. These dates found on the Cornwall OPC database.
