Biography

"Joseph and Cordelia D'hondt had three daughters while living in East Flanders:

Mary, born May 17, 1871.

Matilda, born March 12, 1874.

Elodia, born August 3, 1878.

In 1881, when Elodia was three years old, the D'hondts immigrated to the United States, settling in Oconto, Wisconsin. In Oconto, another daughter, Alice, was born on February 22, 1882.

NOTE: Joseph and Cordelia D'hondt are believed to have had four other daughters and a son, all of whom died in infancy, probably of Croup.

The four D'hondt girls grew up in Oconto and each of them married:

Mary married Louis Everaert, originally from East Flanders, on April 11, 1893. They were married in Marquette, Michigan, and then settled in Scappoose, Oregon.

Matilda married Peter Kremers, originally from The Netherlands, on January 7, 1895. They were married in Oconto and then made their home in Beaverton, Oregon.

Elodia married Edward Huisman, originally from Ertvelde, East Flanders, on April 8, 1902. They were married in Oconto and made their home there. Additional information on Edward and Elodia Huisman is found in the Huisman areas of this Website.

Alice married Frank Huisman, brother of Elodia's husband, on July 2, 1906. They were married in Oconto and also made their home there. Additional information on Frank and Alice Huisman is also found in the Huisman areas of this Website.

Cordelia D'hondt died in Oconto on September 12, 1901. Joseph died five years later in 1906."[1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Josephus by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Josephus:
