William D'Arcy MBE was born in Surrey, England.

William James Buchanan D'Arcy was born 16 March 1844.[1] He was baptized 29 April 1844 in Battersea, Surrey, England, United Kingdom, son of William Arthur D'Arcy (~1816–1876) and Charlotte Williams Buchanan D'Arcy (~1808–1888).[2]

He married Emily Hill, daughter of George Hill, deceased, on 27 September 1873 at the Victoria Street Congregational Church in Swindon, Wiltshire, England.[3][4] He listed his occupation at the time as "civil engineer".[3]

They had the following children:

William was a member of the "Gooch Lodge (no. 1295) in New Swindon, Wiltshire from 1895 to 1907.[13]

Emily died in 1909, and the 1911 census shows that he had left Swindon for Prittlewell, Essex. He lived with the widow Mrs. Edith Duval and her daughter, who worked for him.[14]
William D'Arcy MBE was awarded the Member of the Civil Division of the Order of the British Empire.

On 30 March 1920, he was nominated to be a Member of the Civil Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his services rendered in connection with the Great War.[15]

Some time before 1921, he married Edith, and they were together in Rochford in that census.[16]

William died 24 August 1936.[1] His death was registered in the July-September quarter of that year in Rochford, Essex, England, aged 91.[17]
