Cornelius C. Cusick born in 1835 on the Tuscarora Indian reservation, son of James and Mary Cusick. [1]
His grandfather was Nicholas Kaghnatsho, Cusick-363 the interpreter for General Marquis de Lafayette, during the American Revolution. [2]
2nd Lt. Cusick enlisted in Co. H, 52nd Regiment New York Infantry on 14 August 1862. He was transferred to Co. D, 132nd Regiment New York Infantry on 10 September 1862. He remained in the 132nd New York Infantry for the remainder of the war and mustered out 29 June 1865. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant on 25 January 1863.
Following the Civil War, 1st Lieutenant Cusick transferred to the U.S. Army, serving in the 22nd, 13th and 31st U.S. Infantry Regiments. He was promoted to Captain (date unknown) and retired on 14 January 1892.
