Biography

Elizabeth Cushing was born on May 4, 1736 in Hanover, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Elijah Cushing and Elizabeth Barstow Cushing. [1] She was known by her family as Betty or Betsy.

Betty's father, Elijah, signed a will on March 6, 1761. [2] His daughters "Mary, Betty & Deborah & to their heirs & assigns forever equally to be divided two pieces of land lying in Hanover near the new forge one piece of about twenty-five acres... the other piece being about twenty-five acres." Betty and Deborah "two-thirds of my household stuff & also two cows apiece out of my stock." The daughters were also to be paid by his executor"One hundred thirty-three pounds, six shillings & 8 pence " within two years of his death. Elijah died in 1762.

Betty Cushing married Isaiah Cushing on September 26, 1765 in Pembroke, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.[3][4]

Elizabeth died about June 1819. An obituary appeared in the Columbian Centinel newspaper on June 9, 1819. "Cushing, Elizabeth (Mrs.), widow of late Isaiah Cushing, d. Hingham, age 83 (C. C. June 9, 1819)" [5]
