Born about 1738 James Cumming was a Royal Navy officer. [1]
On the 11th of November 1777 at St Thomas Church, Portsmouth in Hampshire, he married Rebecca Wallace. [2] Also in 1777 he commissioned the newly built frigate, HMS Aurora and took her to the West Indies to serve under Vice-Admiral Clark Gayton where she had considerable success against the Americans before returning to England for re-fit. [3]
He was promoted admiral in 1801. [1]
James died in 1808. [1]
