US Army pension records for Lemuel Cuffee for service in the 10th Colored Infantry show him with invalid status as of Apr. 22 1877 (?) and a widow Burnese Cuffee as of June 7 1888.
Service records of the US Colored Troops show Lemuel (sometimes Samuel) Cuffee enlisting at Crancy Isle VA Dec. 10 1863 at age 23 and mustering in to the 10th Colored Infantry at Fort Monroe on the 17th. He was promoted to Corporal the following month and served until May 29 1864 when he was admitted to one hospital and then transferred in July to the hospital in Newark NJ from which he was discharged as disabled (with rheumatism?) on Dec. 29 1864.
