OBITUARY - WILLIAM CUELL
Honoured and respected by every one with whom he came in contact, the death of the late William Cuell, at the age of 80, who parsed away at his home in Narrabri West, is mourned by a very wide circle of friends. Mr. Cuell. who was born in England, came to Australia at the age of four with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cuell, of Gunnedah.
They first settled at Muswellbrook but later went to live at Murrurundi. In 1875 Mr. Cueil married Miss Margaret Wood, of Murrurundi, and he and his father carried on contract work in association with the construction of the railway line to Narrabri West.
When the line was completed Mr. Cuell decided to enter the railway service permanently. He retired 1929 after a splendid record of 45 years' service.
His devoted wife, together with three daughters and seven sons survive deceased, namely, Mrs. L. A. Gordon (Narrabri West), Mrs. M. Davies and Mrs C. Wickens (Sydney), John, William, Charles, George Walter. Arthur (Narrabri West) and Thomas (Newcastle). One son prede- ceased him. There arc thirty-seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren besides three surviving sisters, Mrs. Walsh (Sydney), Mrs. McKellah (Pilliga) Mrs. S. Turner (Gunnedah) and one brother, Mr. H. Cuell (Gunnedah).
The remains were interred in the Church of England portion of the cemetery, the Rev. Canon Millcr officiating at the graveside. A tribute chown by the large cortege. The pall-bearers were his seven sons and brother. There were many floral tributes.
Memorial Service
An impressive memorial service held at St. Lawrence Church, Narrabri West, was largely attended. Mr. Cueil was one of the first to assist in building the little church and occupied the position of church warder, for over 25 years. His sons today, too, are continuing in their father's footsteps. Canon Miller in his memorial address paid a high tribute to deceased who was, he said, a devoted father and good citizen, and faithful to the service to which he devoted 40 years. The Canon also spoke of the kind acts performed by the late Mr. Cuell, and mentioned the good work performed by Mrs. Cueil and the family who were worthy of the district. He extended the greatest sympathy to the bereaved members.
