George Cubitt, 1st Baron Ashcombe, was born on 4 June 1828 at Clapham Common, London.[1] He was baptised at St. Peter's Church, Eaton Square, Belgravia, London.
He was the son of Thomas Cubitt and Mary Anne Warner.
He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, in 1851 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA). He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, in 1854 with a Master of Arts (MA).
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for West Surrey between 1860 and 1885.
He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) on 24 March 1880.
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Mid Surrey (Epsom) between 1885 and 1892.
He was created 1st Baron Ashcombe, of Dorking, Surrey and of Bodiam Castle, Sussex on 22 August 1892.
He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Surrey and Middlesex.
He was Honorary Colonel of the 5th Battalion, Royal West Surrey Regiment.
He married Laura Joyce, daughter of Rev James Joyce and Sarah Brakspear, on 14 June 1853 at Dorking, Surrey.
He died on 26 February 1917 at age 88 at 17 Prince's Gate, London. He was buried on 2 March 1917 at Ranmore, Surrey.
