Charles William Crowden was born on 11th November 1918 in Deloraine, Tasmania, Australia. He was the son of Edwin Crowden and mother unknown.
On 21st July 1942 Charles enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force for military service overseas during the Second World War. He was later commissioned as a Lieutenant and served as commander of 8th Platoon, A Company, 2/1st Australian Infantry Battalion during the Aitape-Wewak Campaign in New Guinea. He was discharged following the war, on 26th June 1947. [1]
