George was born in 1848. He passed away in 1931.
George enlisted in the Bay of Plenty Volunteer Cavalry under the name Leary, his step father's name. He received the New Zealand War Medal for surviving a clash with Te Kooti's supporters, in 1869, near Opepe, Taupo.
