Philip Cromwell was born in Huntingdonshire, England.

Phillip was born in about 1571 at Hinchinbrooke House in Huntingdonshire, the son of Henry Cromwell and Joan Warren.

He was educated at St John's College, Oxford receiving his Batchelor of Law degree on 7 July 1599[1].

In about 1605 he married Mary Townshend of Cound in Shropshire[1]. They had eight children together in eleven years before she died in 1617. They lived at Biggin House, near Ramsey, Huntingdonshire. He was knighted by James I[1].

Sir Philip died in 1627 and was buried in St Thomas a Becket Church in Ramsey on 28 January 1629[2].
