Biography

John, son of Johan Crolius and Jane Morgan, was born 06 Dec 1787 and baptized 6 Jan 1788 at the Old Dutch Church, New York City, NY. [1] John died 25 Jan 1839 at Oswego, Oswego, New York.[2]

He married Angelica/Engeltje MARSELIS, daughter of Gerrit G MARSELIS and Machtelt/Matilda VISSCHER, on 1 Aug 1807 at Boght, Albany County, NY;[3][4] children (surname CROLIUS):[5]

The 1820 census of Ward 7, New York, New York County, NY, listed John Crolius Junior with 2 males under 10 (sons John, Gilbert), 1 male 10-15 (son James), 1 male 16-25 (son Sebastian), 1 male 26-44 (himself), 3 females under 10, and 2 females 26-44 (wife Engeltje, ?).[7]

The 1830 census of Ward 6, New York, New York County, NY, listed John Crolius with 1 male under 5, 2 males 5-9, 2 males 15-19 (sons James, John), 1 male 30-39, 1 female under 5 (daughter Maria), 2 females 15-19, 1 female 20-29, and 1 female 40-49.[8]

In 1836 John and Angelica/Engeltje sold lots on Wilson Street in Albany NY to James Robinson, Sandford Cobb, and Owen Andrews.[9]

He was called son John J Crolius by the will of John CROLIUS Jr dated 6 Nov 1838 at New York City, NY. And on 11 Dec 1841, a surrogate court record "In the matter of proving the last will and testament of John Crolius, deceased" named "Hulda Crolius residing in the city of New York the widow and Angelica T Groesbeok wife of Jacob Lansing Groesbeok, residing in the same city and Isaac Fitz residing in the same city the special guardian of Gilbert Crolius, George A. S. Crolius and Maria C. Crolius minors and Sebastian V Crolius, James M Crolius Matilda Ann Scott wife of Benjamin F. Scott, Jane Catalina Hays wife of Michael Hays and John Crolius residing in the village of Oswego in the state of New York Catharine Kuypers wife of Warmudus C. Kuypers and Maria Bolderman wife of John Bolderman residing in the city of Newark in the state of New Jersey and Jane Staats wife of Isaac Staats residing at Staatsburgh in the state of Missouri next of kin of John Crolius deceased."[10]
