Biography

Charles was born between December 1838 and 3 February 1839 in South Cerney, Gloucestershire, England. He was the son of Charles Crew and Elizabeth (Stratford) Crew.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]

Charles was baptised on 3 February 1839 in South Cerney, Gloucestershire, England.[10]

In the 1841 census Charles (age 2) was living in South Cerney, Gloucestershire, England with his parents and four siblings.[2]

In the 1851 census Charles (age 12) was living at Bowling Green Cottage in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, England with his parents and four siblings. His occupation was listed as agricultural labourer.[3]

When Charles was 21 he married in Q3 1860. The marriage was registered in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England.[11]

The couple had 12 children of whom 8 survived to adulthood.

In the 1861 census Charles (age 22) was living at Bagmore Cottage in Hambleden, Buckinghamshire, England with his wife and son. His occupation was a gardener and domestic servant.[4]

In the 1871 census Charles (age 32) was living on Kidderminster Road in Wribbenhall, Worcestershire, England with his wife and six children. His occupation was listed as coachman and domestic servant.[5]

In the 1881 census Charles (age 42) was living on Habberley Road in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England with his wife and seven children. His occupation was as a coachman.[6]

In the 1891 census Charles (age 52 listed as 51) was living on Kidderminster Road and Catchems End in Wribbenhall, Worcestershire, England with his wife, five children, and granddaughter. His occupation was a coachman/groom and domestic servant.[7]

In the 1901 census Charles (age 62) was living on 3 Richmond Terrace in Wribbenhall, Worcestershire, England with his wife, son, and granddaughter. His occupation was coachman (domestic).[8]

In the 1911 census Charles (age 72) was living at Hanley Court, Stanford Bridge in Orleton and Hanley William, Worcestershire, England. His occupation was stud groom and he lived on the estate of Henry A Wakeman Newport a rail company director with many other servants.[9]

Charles died at the age of 76 on 9 July 1915 in Wribbenhall, Worcestershire. His address at the time of his death was Richmand Terrace, Kidderminster Road. His probate was 18 August 1915 in London, England. George Ricketts, wheelwright received 183 pounds as his wife died less than a month after him.[12][13]
