Edmund Creswell was born in about 1800.
He was appointed as a post office agent abroad, working in Gibraltar on 23 October 1822. [1], and became postmaster of the colony in 1831.
He married Mary Margaret Ward Fraser on 27 November 1844 in Firenze, Toscana, Italy [2]
Edmund was responsible for amalgamating the two Gibraltar postal services, when the Royal Gibraltar Post Office was founded on 1 January 1857 [3]
Sir William Rooke Creswell (1852-1933), vice admiral, was born on 20 July 1852 at Gibraltar, son of Edmund Creswell, the colony's deputy-postmaster-general, and his wife Margaret Mary Ward, née Fraser. Educated at Aitken's Private School, Gibraltar, and Eastman's Naval Academy, Southsea, England
