Biography

Hugh Alexander was born in 1912. He was the son of Mary nee Macdonald and Alexander Francis Ritchie Crawford ^[1] He passed away in 1936 age 24 ^[2]

Glade House at the head of Lake Te Anau to Cascade creek on the Eglinton Valley road, Hugh Crawford, aged 24 years, died from injuries and exposure. He was a son of Dr. A. F. Ritchie Crawford, of Invercargill Crawford had fallen down a rocky part of the track when he returning from Glade . companion, John de Lambert an employee of the Public Works Department When de Lambert reached Crawford he had severe head injuries and a broken arm. It was snowing heavily and bitterly cold- De Lambert did what he could for Crawford and then went off to get assistance When the relief party, organised by Glade House, reached the spot where Crawford had been left on the track over the pass, Crawford was already dead,^[3]
