Biography

Wilfred Gordon Cowley was born on 20th February 1917 in Armidale, New South Wales, Australia. He was the son of Alfred Cowley and Ivy Wells. [1]

Served in the Second Australian Imperial Force 1942-1945
2/1st Australian Infantry Battalion

On 31st July 1942 Wilfred was commissioned into the Second Australian Imperial Force for service overseas during the Second World War. He joined his unit in time to participate in the Kokoda Track Campaign in Papua. During the latter Aitape-Wewak Campaign on New Guinea's northern coast he was the TO & Canteen officer. He was discharged following the war, on 30th January 1946. [2]
