Biography

Jane was a Friend (Quaker)

Ancestry

The researcher(s) at Cowgill Cousins assert that mother Ellen Cowgill was most likely the wife of Edmund Cowgill of Thornton, son of Edmund and Jennett Cowgill. This is partially based on the record of a Jane Cowgill, daughter of Edmund, baptized at Thornton in 1664, corresponding to Jane's marriage to Stephen Sands in 1685 at age 21.
They further claim that although one early history claimed that mother Ellen was a Stackhouse by birth, that "several subsequent well-researched Stackhouse histories strongly assert she was not one of them."

Immigration

Jane has been recognized as a passenger on Lamb by the Welcome Society along with her mother and siblings John, Jennett and Edmund.

Marriage

Jane Cowgill and Stephen Sands were married 8th month 25th (October 25) 1685[1] at Nicholas Waln's house in Middletown, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania.
Jane Cowgill was a witness to the marriage of her sister, Jennet Cowgill to Bernard Lane 12th mo 2 (February 2), 1687 at the Burlington Meeting House in New Jersey.[2]

Can the Quakers Project join as co- manager for Jane Cowgill Sands? The Project Category is already on the profile but management is missing. Both I and my husband (oops) are possibly descendants of Jane. As a Quaker Project member I’d love to work together and provide Quaker Sources.
