John Covert's birth date and wife's name are recorded on Chapter 2, page 2 The History of the Cornelius Family in America" Charles S. Cornelius, Michigan 1926. ^[1]

Correspondence dated 23 Jan 1839 in Revolutionary War pension applications - a letter by William Laton aged 76 in which he states that he was well acquainted with John Covert in Oyster Bay. That John Covert was an apprentice weaver under Rem Hardenburgh who sued Covert for time lost while Covert was serving with the Revolutionary Army. Laton states Covert was with Washington in New York when they trooped from Long Island. He stated he had known Covert from childhood and he believed Covert died 18 July 1810. Revolutionary War Service

John Covert served with Suffolk County, New York Militia during the American Revolution.

John Covert, (R2381) enlisted at Oyster Bay, Queens Co, New York; pension disallowed as he served only 6 months, but his widow (Catherine Hoagland) was later granted the pension in February 1839 in Oyster Bay, Queens Co, LI, NY when she was 75 and living in NY City. He was born 1754/5 and died 10 March 1834. He was a weaver by trade. They married March 1781. John was Johannes, son of Johannes Covert and wife Jane Cornelius. Jane Cornelius was daughter of Elias Cornelius and wife Elizabeth Smith.^[8]
