Thomas was the beneficiary of the will of his brother George William, probate granted on 3 Mar 1897, he inherited 19,599 pounds 14 shillings and 7 pence.

Thomas COURTNEY died on 17 March 1898 left his effects of 31482 pounds and 4 shillings to Emma COURTNEY, spinster. It is unclear whether this was his sister or his daughter.

Could he be a relation of George Courtney, daughter named Sophia?

Research Notes

  • There is another Thomas Earle Courtney living in the district at the same time, I believe them to be different people.
  • I have ruled out this Thomas as being the father of Emma Beatrice COURTNEY. Thomas and Elizabeth LANGLEY are the correct parents names from the birth certificate of Emma. Their estimated ages are taken from 1871 census where they are both with Emma. Thomas may have been married before, given there is a five year disparity in their ages. This Thomas is elsewhere in 1871 and occupations do not align. However, there is a strong possibility of some other family connection.
