Robert "Bob" Earnest Counce was born, 05 Sep/Oct 1922, in Charlton, Iowa, as the youngest of 13 children, to Robert Edmund Lee Counce and his second wife, Bessie M. (Baxter) Counce[1][2][3]
Family records state that Robert was born in Oct, however Find A Grave has listed him as born in Sep. He has been listed her on WikiTree with the birth occuring in Sept until proof can be obtained that he was, in fact, born in Oct. The Sep/Oct entry in the bio is for anyone who is looking for clarification.[1]
Robert spoke with fondness of his childhood growing up in Julesburg, Colorado, working after school in his father's flour mill, playing dirt lot football, and learning to play the trombone in the school dance band - which he often remarked doing with a certain, special "flair". He attended the University of Colorado, for a time, as a pre-med student, before serving during World War II.[1][2]
Not known at this time, but is implied in the very well written Obituary Memorial found on Find A Grave.[1][2]
He is survived by two daughters, Beverly & Cricket and two stepsons, Frank & Rob, two grandchildren, Catherine & Alex, as well as four great-grandchildren, Rose, James, Teddy, & Taylor.[1][2][4]
Robert married second, Leon "Lee" Claire (LNAB Not known at this time), in 1969, with whom he shared a love of travel and adventure, classical music and theater, family, faith, good friends, and living life every day.[1][2]
Unknown at this time.[4]
Robert enlisted in the United States Army on 09 Feb 1943.[5] He served during World War II, as a Staff Sergeant, in the 247th Army Air Forces Base Unit.[1][2]
In 1946, after an honorable discharge from the service, "Bob", as he preferred to be called, returned to Denver, Colorado, where he started a family, and ran a very successful floor covering business for many years.[1][2]
Bob had a heart of gold, never knew a stranger, was always quick to lend a helping hand, generous to a fault, loved to be of service, and met every new day with the wonder of a child. He wanted to be known simply as "just Bob," but as "just Bob," he became truly remarkable.[1][2]
Robert loved the mountains, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and especially snow skiing - having continued to ski until he was 80 years old - remarking often that it felt "just like flying".[1][2]
In 2007, Robert moved, with "Lee", to Statesboro, Georgia to be nearer her two sons and their families.[1][2] .
Robert, age 94, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, 26 Jan 2017. Visitation for family and family friends was held Monday, 30 Jan 2017at Hodges-Moore Funeral Home. A memorial service with military honors was held early Friday afternoon, 03 Feb 2017 at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia.[1][2]
