Note: BIRTH: 1870 Census, KY., Fayette Co., Lexington, page 213, Aug. 1870;

she was 24 yrs. old. Birthplace was Ireland; but death cert. of

son James says she was born in Ohio.

NAME: Death certificates of son James and daughter Mary D. Ramsey

give maiden name of mother as Mary Coughlin. Could it be a mis-

take, since in 1870 census she and Charles were living with a

family named Cochran. Possibly her children confused the name

Cochran with Coughlin, since they probably never knew her.

DEATH: Her husband had married again in 1876, and three children

probably hers because of their ages and names (James 11, Mary

9 and John 7) were listed in the 1880 census. Letter from Rosemary Corrigan indi-

cated that Margaret Corrigan was second wife of Charles Donovan,

and she is listed in census of 1880 as his wife, along with

three older children plus Timothy (2) and Annie (1). Estimate

that Mary died not long after birth of Julia in about 1875, since

there were no children born after him until Timothy in 1878.

RESIDENCE: The Donovan's were living with a Cochran family in

Lexington in 1870 (possibly Mary's family?): Jeremiah, 58, general laborer

Ellen, 40, Anna, 20, a seamstress, and Jeremiah, 18, a printer. NOTE: A WILL DATED FEB. 1918, OF ANNA A. COUGHLIN, LEAVES HER ESTATE TO HER NEPHEW jAMES P. DONOVAN AND THE CHILDREN OF HER NIECE MARY RAMSEY, AND MENTIONS THAT JOHN DONOVAN OF LUDLOW, HER NEPHEW IS IN NO NEED OF MONEY. SHE NAMES HER BROTHER, JEREMIAH COCHRAN, AS EXECUTOR. I BELIEVE THIS IS SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE THAT THE FAMILY THE DONOVANS WERE LIVING WITH WERE MARY'S FAMILY.

MARRIAGE: Mary was married to Charles DONOVAN, according to marriage

certificate, at St. Peter's Church in Lexington, KY, by Father Bekkers, in the

presence of John Donovan and Mary Ellen McCann.

Her last name was spelled Coghlan, Coughlan, or Coughlin, on marriage license,

marriage certificate, and children's death certificates. On son John's baptismal certificate, it was spelled Cocklin!
