Biography

John Mitchell Cota, Sr., 65, of Springfield, died at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009 at St. John's Hospice.

John was born September 1, 1943 in Springfield, the son of Clarence and Grace King Cota.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving from 1960 to 1964. He enjoyed traveling and the great outdoors, especially while camping or fishing. His most prized possession was his St. Bernard, Bear.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by four sons, Troy and Kenneth Cota both of Springfield, John Cota, Jr. of Williamsville and Kenneth Cota of San Diego, CA; one daughter, Michelle (husband, Kenny) Allen of Springfield; ten grandchildren, Justin Lee, Jared Mitchell, Bradan Kristopher, Kimberly, Jessica, Devin, Angel and Kenneth Jr. Cota, and Zachary (girlfriend, Sara), Joshua and Matthew Allen; six great-grandchildren and many friends, especially best friends, Patsy Fowler, Jimmy and Nick Sisti and Johnnie and Mark Boggs.

Family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at Kirlin-Egan and Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield.

Graveside ceremonies will follow visitation at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. where military honors will be provided by the Department of Defense. Pastor Paul Rose will officiate.
