Agnes Beryl Corfield was born on 27th April 1891 in Queensland (Australia). Beryl, as she was known, was the eldest daughter of George Corfield and Agnes Mary James of Glen App, via Beaudesert, Queensland.
She became a nurse. Travelling to England upon the declaration of (the First World) War in 1914, Beryl was accepted as a nurse in the Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service (QAIMNS). During 1915 she worked in Cairo and aboard hospital ships travelling between Gallipoli and Egypt. Her letters to a friend indicate that she enjoyed social engagements with officers in Egypt and treating wounded troops. [1]
Aged just 24 years, she passed away of influenza on 2nd February 1916 in the 2nd Australian General Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt [2] and is buried in Chatby Military and War Memorial Cemetery, Alexandria.
