Birth

Sarah was born on 25th January 1747 in Mullaghmast, County Kildare, Ireland. She was the daughter of Charles Corfield and Deborah Wood.

Marriage

On 19th April 1776 she married John Carroll who was from Creenagh, Co Antrim. Sarah, like her husband, was a Quaker and the marriage took place in a Friends ceremony at Mallughmast, (County Kildare). The couple moved south and settled in Cork where they joined the Cork meeting. Two of her husband's brothers also moved to Cork from County Antrim, with their wives.

John Carroll established a successful timber business in Cork and he and Sarah had 6 children all born in Cork. Their children were raised as Friends, but 3 of their sons, William, Frederick and John, and their only daughter Deborah all died young, between the ages of 6 and 14 years. Only their sons Joshua and Thomas survived to adulthood.

John and Sarah acquired 2 large properties on Middle Glanmire Rd in Cork and their sons, Joshua Carroll and Thomas Corfield Carroll became successful merchants alongside their father, both marrying into Quaker families - the Haughtons and the Hattons.

Sarah passed away in Cork on 21st June 1830 and was buried on 2nd July.
