Wellington Times (NSW : 1899 - 1954) Thu 16 Jan 1941 Page 2 [3] FIRST WELLINGTON CASUALTY The news of the first Wellington casualty in the A.I.F. forces fight ing overseas came to hand on Mon day last, when Mr. and Mrs. George Baker, of Arthurville, received word from the Defence Department, stat- ing that their son, Pte. Arthur Hor ace Baker, had been wounded in ac tion, while fighting with the A.I.F forces. Pte. Baker went away with the first lot of A.I.F. soldiers that left these shores, and was attached to the machine gun section.

Wellington Times (NSW : 1899 - 1954) Fri 17 Aug 1945 Page 6 [5] ARTHURVILLE WELCOME HOME - Cpl. Arthur Baker. A welcome home dance was held in the local hall on Thursday, 2nd inst., in honour of Corporal Arthur Baker, who has returned after hav- ing been a prisoner of war in Germany. A large crowd at- tended and Arthur met many of his old friends again. 'For He's a Jolly Good Fellow was sung as Cpl. Baker entered the hall, accompanied by his cousin, Miss Una Baker. Many speeches were made.

After the war, Arthur married Mavis Janet Wright nee Graham in Dubbo in 1947. [6]

Arthur died on 8 Jun 1955 in Coonabarabran, New South Wales, Australia, aged 35. [7]

Gilgandra Weekly (NSW : 1942 - 1955) Wed 6 Jul 1955 Page 8[8] MR ARTHUR HORACE BAKER The death occurred at the Coonabarabran District Hospital, after a very short illness, of Mr. Arthur Horace Baker, aged 35 years, of "Downfield" Station, Coonabarabran. The late Mr. Baker was a farmer and grazier, and was born at Wellington. He was married at Dubbo to Mrs. Mavis Wright (nee Graham), who survives him.
The late Mr. Baker was a returned soldier, and was a member of the 1st Battalion 2nd . AIF. He was also a member of the Timor Masonic Lodge, Coonabarabran, and - Allan Stewart Masonic Lodge, Geurie.
The funeral, which was very largely attended, left Holy Trinity Church on Thursday afternoon, after a service conducted by Bishop d'arcy Collins, interment being made in the Church of England portion of the Dubbo cemetery. A Masonic service -was • conducted at the graveside '

Arthur was mentioned on a memorial in Old Dubbo Cemetery, Dubbowith a death date of 8 June 1955.[9]
