Biography

Susan (Cook) Bryant was born in Saxtead, Suffolk, England.

Susan (Cook) Bryant was born sometime between 1804 and 1809 in Saxtead, Suffolk.^[1] Her parents were Edward Cooke and Honor (Stoffer) Cooke.^[2]

Susan married John Philpot (1801 - 1844) on July 28, 1822 at St Mary in Cratfield, Suffolk^[3].

Ten years later she married Stephen Bryant (1828 - 1871) by banns on December 26, 1854 at St Mary in Burston, Norfolk^[6]. She signed the marriage record with a "X". Stephen had been a lodger in her home at the time of the 1851 census and was eighteen years her junior.

In the 1861 census Susanne (age 52), Labourers wife, was the wife of Stephen Bryant in Burston, Depwade, Norfolk, England.^[7]

In the 1871 census Susannah (age 65) was the wife of Stephen Bryant in Church Green, Burstow, Depwade, Norfolk, England.^[8]

Susan died on December 1, 1878 in Burston from paralysis and was buried on December 6, 1878 at St Mary's in Burston.^[9][10].^[11]

Research Notes

Her baptism record has not been found. When she marries for the second time in 1854 she states that her father was Edward Cooke, and the census returns have her birth as Saxtead.
