Biography

Elizabeth Cook, the daughter of Jacob Cook and his wife Joanna Williams, was born Sept. 9, 1768 at Chesterfield, New Jersey. She and William Fleming were married Dec. 30, 1798 at Oxford Furnace. They had eight children. She died Oct 4, 1849 aged 81 years, 26 days at Washington, New Jersey. Her final resting place is in the Bethlehem churchyard (currently called Grandin Cemetery) in the Fleming plot.

Elizabeth Cook, who was of a family of "Friends", lived at Cook's Cross Roads, a half mile west from Juteland, in the town of Bethlehem, (now in town of Union, New Jersey.) She and William did not live far from each other. She moved into that town with her father, Jacob Cook, in 1784. He bought a farm on a cross roads which afterwards took his name.

Elizabeth joined the Presbyterian Church.

8th day 7th (july) month 1784, Jacob Cook, wf. ch. Elizabeth, William, Hannah, John, Rachel, Lydia, Obediah, Anne, came from the Chesterfield meeting to the Kingwood meeting. pp. 12, 33^[1] It was noted on 10 2nd month 1800 that Elizabeth Fleming was formerly Cook.
