Oregon City Couple Observe Golden Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Cooke Both Natives of Clackamas County

OREGON CITY, Or., June 18.- (Special.)- Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Cooke, natives of Clackamas county, today celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.

William Henry Cooke and Jessie T. Winston were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Winston, in Damascus, Or., June 18, 1882, by Rev. J. N. Teal. The couple immediately took up their residence in Oregon City, first residing on Main street, and later moving to their present home at 1307 Seventh street.

Mr. Cooke is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Cooke of Damascus, pioneers of 1852, and Mrs. Cooke is the daughter of the late James and Mary E. Winston, pioneers of 1846 and 1845, respectively, Mrs. Cooke is the grand-daughter of Rev. Hezekiah Johnson and wife, pioneer Baptist missionaries of Oregon City, who were sent here by the New York Baptist mission board in 1845, Mrs. Cooke has been an active member of the First Baptist church for more than 50 years, and before her marriage taught school for five years in Clackamas county. Among her ex-pupils are Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Dedman, Hiram E. Straight and the late Alex Lewthwaite of Portland.

Mrs. and Mrs. Cooke have one daughter, Maude W. Cooke, who teaches in Grant high school, Portland.

In honor of her parents, and of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Caufield, who celebrated their golden wedding anniversary June 8. Miss Cooke entertained today at dinner at Mrs. Candee's, on the Mount Hood loop highway at Parkdale, and completed the trip around the loop.
