Biography

Egbert Gerritsen Constapel

Egbert <Gerrit> Constapel was born about 1674 at "Holland, Netherlands."[1] His parents can be assumed to be Gerrit Egbertsen and Geesje Hendricks, who witnessed the baptism of Egbert's son Gerrit in 1695.[2]

Egbert <Gerrit> Constapel married Marritje Hendrickse Bont ca. 1692 at Ulster County, New York (Marriage records for year 1692 are missing at the KRDC). [3]

Freeholder in the town of Hurley, New York

Research Notes

The death place data field of this profile had an entry of ?? Salzberg, Hessen-Cassel, Commune Hamburg, Germany. There is nothing in the profile text to support this (and it resulted in an error message due to the ?? part), so I removed it. Is there a basis for this location??

LNAB Unless a baptism or marriage record is found that has contradictory information, his LNAB should be Gerritsen, the patronymic name recorded for Egbert at the baptisms of his sons in 1695 and 1700. Smith-62120 20:05, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

Sources

  1. Is there a source for his place of birth? It's not common for Dutch immigrants to New Netherland to have arrived after 1674.
  2. 2.0 2.1 Hoes, page 45
  3. Is there a source for this? If he was born in 1674, it would be unusual to marry in 1692 -- men in this culture typically were a good bit older than 18 at first marriage.

Constapel-24 and Constapel-5 appear to represent the same person because: Duplicate profile. Spouse and son are both set to merge.

Constapel-20 and Constapel-5 appear to represent the same person because: Proof for birth places and death places does not exist on either profile. On child, Benjamin, is the same. Spouse is the same. Location of Ulster County, New York is shared. It appears they are the same person but both with incomplete proofs.
