Biography

Eugene Conord was born on 3 Aug 1826, in Nanterre, France the child of Pierre Francois and Marie Madelaine.^[1] He had one brother, Jean Marie, who was also born in Nanterre, France on 23 Mar 1822 and two sisters (Marie Antoinette, Madeleine Victorine). Their father Pierre was a successful champignonier (mushroom grower) at a time when France was the leader in the formal cultivation of the Agricus Bisporus mushroom, the common domestic mushroom of today.

Eugene married his first wife, Reine "Renée" Denise Richard, on 4 Nov 1847.^[2] He separated from Reine in 1852 before the birth of their last child together (Reine Louise). He was list as a milkman on Reine Louise's birth certificate in 1853.^[3]

He most likely lived with his second wife, Marie Louise Conor, when their first child Ernest was born in Jun 1856. They then immigrated to the USA around 1857 (Son Ernest indicated 1857 as the year of immigration on a later census)^[4] with Marie Louise. All of their children were born before they got married on 24 Apr 1882 in Manhattan, New York.^[5]

It also looks like Eugene brought his last child with Reine (Reine Louise known as Louise) with him when he immigrated in 1857. She eventually married Augustus Fromm on 28 Aug 1873.^[6] Since Eugene settled in Elizabeth NJ he was only about 16 miles away from his brother Jean Conord and his mushroom farm in West Hoboken, NJ.

Another interesting fact about Eugene and Marie Louise is that they are related! They both have the same grandfather, Clement Joseph Conor (08 Jul 1754 -16 Mar 1816) but different grandmothers, Marguerite Leroy (1759 - 12 Mar 1798) for Eugene and Marie Denise Fremiot (1769 - 8 Oct 1842) for Marie Louise.

Clement Joseph Conor and Marguerite Leroy had a son Pierre Louis Francois Conord who was Eugene’s father.

Clement Joseph Conor and Marie Denise Fremiot had had a son Joseph Charles Conor who was Marie Louise’s father.

Eugene died on 19 Feb 1900 (Probate 3 Mar 1900)^[7] and was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside, Union County, New Jersey, USA.^[1]
