After leading his unit ashore, Lieutenant Colonel Condon immediately directed installation of his command despite heavily concentrated enemy gunfire. His initiative, tireless devotion and courage inspired his men, upholding the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service.

-- THE LEGION OF MERIT - A SECOND GOLD STAR awarded Colonel Condon (MCSN: 0-4986), United States Marine Corps, for meritorious service in the conduct of his duties for the United States Government from May 24, 1952 to January 7, 1953.

-- DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS - Presented to Brigadier General John P. Condon (MCSN: 0-4986), United States Marine Corps, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from April 15,1958 to April 1, 1961 as Deputy Director for Operations, J-3 Division, Headquarters, United States European Command. Brigadier General Condon provided guidance and inspiration to his subordinates and displayed exceptional ability in analyzing and resolving difficult and involved problems in the field of unified command operations. His expert knowledge, competence, and dynamic aggressiveness were significant factors in the success of numerous exercises in which the United States European Command participated. Brigadier General Condon's recommendations involving international politico- military affairs and command relationships provided a positive basis for progress, and he contributed immeasurably to the operational readiness of the United States' European Command, reflecting great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.

-- DISTINGISHED FLYING CROSS - The short description of this award in the Military Times Hall of Valor bears a note that it is only a SYNOPSIS: This award was given to John P.
